Press contest on new rural areas associated with agricultural restructuring launched

A press contest on the building of new-style rural areas, associated with agricultural restructuring in the period of 2017-2020, was jointly launched by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), the Ministry of Information and Communications and the Vietnam Journalists’ Association (VJA), in Hanoi on June 22.

Politburo member and Deputy PM, Vuong Dinh Hue, President of the VJA and Editor-in-chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Thuan Huu, and MARD Minister, Nguyen Xuan Cuong, were in attendance at the event.

On behalf of the organising committee, Cuong said that the contest aims to attract the attention of press agencies and create a consensus within the society on the building of new-style rural areas and the restructuring of the agricultural sector, thereby raising public awareness and responsibility in implementing the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies and laws.

Addressing the event, Deputy PM Vuong Dinh Hue applauded the initiative to organise such a meaningful contest, which, he said, would contribute significantly to raising the awareness and responsibility of the entire society in the cause of building new-style rural areas attached with agricultural restructuring.

Furthermore, the contest will also help to detect, honour and replicate the good practices and experiences of collectives and individuals in new rural development and agricultural restructuring, and to propose measures to harmoniously handle relationships between economic, cultural, social, environmental and security elements in the process of building new-style rural areas and restructuring the agricultural sector, towards added value and sustainable development, he noted.

The deputy PM expressed his wish that the press becomes a part of people’s lives, continuing to produce a lot of quality, authentic and vivid works, imbued with the breath of life, thereby contributing to working out the relevant methods and solutions needed to develop the rural Vietnamese region in the years to come.

The contest, to be held annually from 2017 to 2020, features four categories of televised broadcasts, radio, print media and electronic media. The entries should focus on reflecting the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies and laws on new-style rural area building and agricultural restructuring programmes; significant results in the building of new-style areas, restructuring the agricultural sector and developing collective economy; good practices, new models and outstanding examples in the field; and any shortcomings and negative aspects in the building of new-style rural areas and the restructuring of the agricultural sector.

The press works to be submitted for the 2017 contest must be published on means of media from January 1 to October 20, 2017.

The awards ceremony is scheduled to be held in Hanoi on the traditional day of the agriculture and rural development sector (November 14).
