Gia Lai needs VND 5.2 trillion to develop medicinal plants

Cultivating medicinal plants in order to conserve, protect and sustainably develop the precious plant species suitable to Gia Lai province's natural and social-economic conditions.

Ca gai leo is strongly developed in Gia Lai province.

The provincial People's Committee of Gia Lai has issued a decision approving the project: "Conserving and Developing medicinal plants in the province until 2025 with an orientation towards 2030".

Accordingly, the province's medicinal plant growing area will reach around 20,000 hectares by 2030 including 800 hectares of Panax vietnamensis, 1,000 hectares of anoectochilus setaceus, 500 hectares of paris polyphylla , 2,500 hectares of Ming aralia, 2,000 hectares of tongkat ali, 1,000 hectares of Amomum longiligulare, 1,000 hectares of Codonopsis celebica , 1,000 hectares of dong quai and 1,000 hectares of Solanum procumbens (Ca gai leo).

Medicinal plants will be a priority for development in the potential districts of the province such as Kbang, Dak Doa, Mang Yang, An Khe, Chu S, Chu Puh, Chu Prong, la Pa.

In order to realize the project, Gia Lai needs to establish at least six seedling production facilities to supply high-quality seedlings, meeting 100% demand for seeds and seedlings of organization and individuals getting involved in cultivating medicinal plants. In addition, Gia Lai also needs to build brands for at least 4 medicinal products and having ten more medicinal products created in association with the province's OCOP program.

To achieve the goal of the project, the total investment capital  needed is around VND5.2 trillion. Specifically, the 2021-2025 period needs  VND 3.31 trillion and  the 2026-2030 period needs VND 1.89 trillion. Accordingly, the capital mobilized from the State budget is about VND 477 billion and VND 4,723 billion from extra-budgetary resources.

Gia Lai has approved the project on developing medicinal plants in order to conserve and sustainably develop the precious medicinal plant species suitable to the province's natural and social-economic conditions.

Developing medicinal plants also contributes to the restructuring of crops towards concentrated commodity production, forming a sustainable value-based linkage chain, making medicinal plants become a strong point of Gia Lai's agricultural production.
