Pakistan imported 26,100 tonnes of Vietnamese tea with a total value of US$52.77 million during the first eight months of 2019, up of 26.5 per cent in volume and 14.5 per cent in value on year.

According to statistics released by the General Department of Vietnam Customs, August alone saw the nation export 12,300 tonnes of tea, a fall of 2.7 per cent in volume, despite a 6.9 per cent increase in value compared to the same period last year. Prices of exported tea were at an average of US$1,777.7 per tonne, a rise of 8.5 per cent on-year.

During the reviewed period, the country’s tea exports to Pakistan and Taiwan enjoyed an annual increase, while exports to China, Russia, and Indonesia all suffered from declines.

Most notably, tea exports to the Philippines saw a sharp increase in terms of both volume and value during the reviewed period. Vietnam exported a total of 727 tonnes of tea to the Filipino market, with a value of US$1.89 million, a yearly increase of 63 per cent in volume and a rise of 66.4 per cent in value.

Meanwhile, China represents the country’s third largest tea export market. Despite suffering a sharp fall in tea exports to the Chinese market, the average export price stood at US$3,534.3 per tonne, a rise of 171.2 per cent against 2018’s figure. As a result, the export value of tea to China reached US$18.07 million, up 68.7 per cent in comparison with the same period from 2018.

Exports of tea to the United States also endured a drop  in terms of volume, in spite of an increase in value due to the growing average export price.
