Mekong Delta fishery export reached nearly 2 billion USD
Fishery export in Vietnam in the first five months of 2021 reached nearly 3.3 billion USD, an increase by 14% over the same period last year. Particularly, the Mekong Delta reached approximately 2 billion USD, accounting for 60% of national fishery export value.
According to VASEP, fishery export was still highly measured in Mekong Delta provinces, which are rich in farmed and exploited sources of marine materials.
Specifically, fishery exports in 13 Mekong Delta provinces reached approximately 2 billion USD, accounting for 60%, 6 provinces in the Southeast area accounted for 18% with 602 million USD, and the rest were the Central and Northern provinces.
According to the turnover measured in each province and city, currently, HCMC is leading the country with turnover of 356.5 million USD, accounting for roughly 11% of total fishery export value in Vietnam.
In the first 5 months of 2021, the fishery production of HCMC reached 21.572,4 tons, which was equal to 99.8% over the same period last year. Among which were fish production estimated at 7.328,9 tons, a decrease by 1.6%; shrimp production estimated at 4.872,3 tons, up 72.3%; other fishery production estimated at 9.371,2 tons, accounting for 99.7% over the same period of 2020.
Soc Trang province ranked the second with 346.5 million USD, accounting for 10.4%; Ca Mau province ranked the third with 315.2 million USD, accounting for 9.5%. These two provinces both have strength in shrimp export.
Dong Thap province was leading the country in pangasius export with the turnover in the first five months this year reaching 271 million USD, accounting for 8% of national total export. The fourth place was Khanh Hoa province with 291.4 million USD, accounting for 8.8% of national export value. Following these above were Da Nang province with 87 million USD and Binh Thuan province with 81 million USD in the first 5 months of 2021.
