Luc Ngan lychee yields some 80,000 tonnes

This year, Luc Ngan district in the northern province of Bac Giang has totally cultivated 15,290 hectares of lychee with an expected output of about 80,000 tonnes including 1,850 hectares of early ripen lychee (accounting for 12.1 percent) and 13,440 hectares of main season lychee (making up 87.9 percent). The harvest time will be scheduled on May 20.

There are about 11,500 hectares of lychee grown under VietGap standard. The district is home to 36 codes of cultivation areas and 3 package facilities (Hong Xuan Cooperative, Hong Giang Cooperative and Hung Thao enterprise) accepted by China for export.

Additionally, the United States Department of Agriculture has provided 18 orchard codes to 394 lychee growers in the communes of Hong Giang, Giap Son, Tan Moc, Bien Son, Tan Quang, Tan Son and Kien Lao with total area of 217.89 hectares so as to export the fruit to the US markets.

Regarding the consumption market, this year Luc Ngan district continues focusing on the big and major centres such as Ho Chi Minh city, Hanoi, Da Nang and adjacent provinces while actively inviting and working with the distributors and leading retailers such as Big C, Co.opmart in order to introduce the lychee to these distribution channels.

A due attention has been paid to the fruit wholesale markets and retail chains in the provinces and cities. Meanwhile, local authority creates further favourable conditions to the enterprises and cooperatives during buying the fruits to export to the markets of China, UK and US…

The People’s Committee in Luc Ngan district has prepared specific locations to welcome the tradesmen, businesses, domestic and foreign tourists and press agencies to visit the local areas for surveying, processing and buying the lychees.

Also, the local authority ensures the conditions of political security and social order, facilitates the loaning procedure, credit transaction of all sides in this lychee season.
