HCM CITY — Two international exhibitions - Vietnam Farm and Food Expo 2017 and Agritech Vietnam 2017- opened yesterday in HCM City, featuring nearly 200 booths set up by 120 local and foreign exhibitors.

Products on display at the Vietnam Farm and Food Expo include rice, coffee, cashew, fruits and vegetables, organic foods and fine food and drinks as well as herbs, spices and regional specialities.

Agritech Vietnam is introducing a wide range of agricultural machinery such as tractors, mini tillers, seeders, fertiliser application machines, gardening tools and processing and post-harvest preservation technology.

Biotechnology, greenhouses, water filtration systems, pressure sprayers and other items are also on display.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Nguyễn Phước Hưng, deputy chairman of the HCM City Union of Business Associations (HUBA), said that the expos would help producers and traders in the agricultural sector to promote their products and brands as well as exchange information and explore business opportunities.

The events also aim to enhance the application of technology in agricultural production to improve productivity and quality and also seek markets for domestic farm produce, according to Hưng.

Organised by HUBA in collaboration with Đông Nam Advertising and Commercial Promotion Joint-Stock Company, the expos included a seminar held yesterday on consumption linkages for Vĩnh Long agricultural products.

Nguyễn Văn Liêm, deputy director of Vĩnh Long’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said with its favourable land and weather, the province has an abundance of fruits and vegetables, with many products being exported, including Năm Roi pomelos, thick-skinned oranges, rambutan, longan and sweet potato.

At the event, the province expects to introduce its quality products that have food safety and hygiene certification to international and local enterprises to establish consumption linkages for its farm produce.

The two expos will run until July 28 at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Centre.
