Hanoi (VNA) – The Department of Farm Produce Processing and Market Development made its debut at a ceremony held by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) in Hanoi on June 21.
According to MARD Minister Nguyen Xuan Cuong, processing and marketing remain weaknesses of Vietnam’s agricultural sector, and disconnection between production and market development results in low revenues.
It is necessary to intensify marketing work to enable local agricultural products to assess new markets, he said.
He asked the department to cooperate closely with ministries, especially the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), business associations and farmers in market study, analysis and forecast, towards producing clean and good-price products for domestic consumption and export, bringing high economic values to the sector.
MoIT Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Khanh said his ministry will continue standing side by side with the agricultural sector in promoting the nation’s farm produce.
The establishment of the department shows the MARD’s vital strategy in developing markets for agricultural products, contributing to connecting production with processing and market expansion.
At the launching ceremony, the department signed cooperation agreements with a number of relevant domestic and foreign organisations
