HÀ NỘI — The second Vietnamese Coffee Day will run from December 9 to 11 in Gia Nghĩa Town, Đắk Nông Province to boost the sustainable development of the coffee industry and increase the value of coffee products.

The coffee day will be an opportunity for local and foreign companies to learn about the market and share their experience in production, processing and trading coffee, he said. They could also use the event to find partners and advertisers.

This event expects to attract the participation of representatives from ministries, sectors, provinces – especially localities producing coffee – embassies in Việt Nam, global and regional coffee organisations as well as coffee production and processing enterprises.

There are 33 representatives from the Global Coffee Platform, the ASEAN Coffee Federation, the Asia Coffee Association and coffee importers from China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, India, Myanmar, Laos and Western African nations.

The second Vietnamese Coffee Day is marked by an exhibition with 50 booths for quality coffee products and several other activities including workshops discussing sustainable development in the industry.

This year’s event is being held in Đắk Nông, the third largest coffee producing province in Việt Nam, under direction of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the People’s Committee of Đắk Nông Province and the Việt Nam Coffee and Cacao Association.

Vietnamese Coffee Day 2018 would for the first time include a meeting for local and foreign associations and enterprises to sign co-operation contracts, Lương Văn Tự, chairman of the Việt Nam Coffee and Cacao Association – one of the organisers of the event this year – said.

The event will have coffee cupping by experts for the first time.

Việt Nam has had the fastest coffee development in the world although it started late. The nation’s coffee output accounted for one per cent of the global coffee supply in 1991. By 2017 it accounted for 17 per cent of the world’s coffee. The nation is the second largest coffee exporter in the world after Brazil.

This year, Việt Nam expects to export 1.7 million tonnes of coffee, earning $3.5 billion. The export value of coffee is estimated to contribute about 9 per cent to the total export value of farming, forestry and seafood products this year.
