Cao Phong orange specialized farming area builds consumption scenarios

Currently, Cao Phong orange specialized farming area (Hoa Binh province) has begun to harvest. In the 2021-2022 crop year, the output of some orange orchards increased but the district's total output decreased compared to last year.

According to Mr. Le Van Cuong, Director of Ha Phong Cooperative, Bac Phong commune (Cao Phong district), Cao Phong orange prices are not stable. Grade 1 oranges have prices from VND 17,000 to 18,000 per kilogram. Grade 2 oranges have prices from VND 13,000 to 14,000 per kilogram, or from VND 10,000 or less depending on quality.

In the context of the unpredictable development of the Covid-19 epidemic, orange consumption is forecasted to face many difficulties due to people’s changes in shopping habits and purchase volume’s decrease significantly.

Mr. Bui Van Dan, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Cao Phong district, said that the People's Committee of Cao Phong district has built consumption scenarios to adapt to each level of the Covid-19 epidemic's development.

Accordingly, the output is expected to be 22,000 tonnes with citrus fruit trees and mainly consumed in the domestic market.

In the condition that the Covid-19 epidemic is under control, agricultural products are sold smoothly: It is expected that consumption through traders will account for 60%; through retail channels, online 25%; selling on-site to serve tourists 5%; 10% sold in supermarkets.

In the context of complicated developments of the Covid-19 epidemic, but still under control: Continue to promote the consumption channel through traders accounting for 45% of output; 40% through retail channels, online, through e-commerce platforms; and 15% retail at residential markets, residential areas, and supermarkets.

In the context that the Covid-19 epidemic has had a comprehensive impact, export activities have been frozen, agricultural output is mainly consumed domestically: It is expected that consumption through traders will account for 30%; retail channels, online, through e-commerce floors about 40%; retail at markets of people, residential areas about 15%; 12% processed through the fresh fruit and herbal processing factory.
