The planned construction of a multi-purpose fishery center in Vung Tau City’s Go Gang Island reflects the province’s determination to invest in fishery infrastructure. The fishery center will be built on an area of 240ha to meet fishing vessel capacity of up to 2,000 CV, as well as provide logistics services.

The fishery center will provide a variety of other services, including seafood processing, fishing equipment repair and production, engineering services for building and repairing high-capacity ships, marine equipment services, a registration center, a storm shelter zone, rescue aids and other services.

Nguyen Hong Linh, secretary of the Ba Ria-Vung Tau Provincial Party Committee, said the standing committee of the provincial party committee agreed to build a fishery center in Go Gang Island. Units need to conduct environmental impact assessment before forming the center.

Go Gang Island is surrounded by rivers and is therefore convenient for waterway transportation. In addition, Go Gang Island is very close to the National Southern Oil Spill Response Center, creating favorable conditions for handling and responding to unpredictable situations.

Provincial officials hope that once the fishery center is completed and put into operation, it will bring great economic benefits and stimulate the development of logistics services.

In addition, it is hoped the center will contribute greatly to promoting the development of the fishery sector in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, improving the quality of fishery products, reducing post-harvest losses, creating more jobs and ensuring social security for the local community.

According to the Ba Ria-Vung Tau Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Governmental Decree 67/2014/ND-CP on a number of fishery development policies has created a driving force for fishermen to invest in production expansion, contributing significantly to the restructuring of the fishery sector towards sustainable development.

Tran Van Cuong, director of the Ba Ria-Vung Tau Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said that despite the investment policy based on the government decree, central government loans for the province have not been made available.

In order to meet the needs of fishery infrastructure and services, the provincial department of agriculture and rural development has proposed that relevant ministries, departments and agencies study and supplement the support policy for the province in order to help it obtain additional funding for construction and development of infrastructure.
