Vice-chairman of An Giang Province People’s Committee Tran Anh Thu has chaired an online meeting with leaders of 8 districts, one town and two cities in the province and representatives from Loc Troi Group and Tan Long Group about solving difficulties in the harvest, circulation and consumption of local farming products.

At the meeting, Thu said that the province’s authorities were contacting major enterprises in and out of the province, seeking solutions to the consumption of local farming products.

Loc Troi Group was playing the role of a contact person that helps local authorities to further connect with other enterprises in the province, Thu said.

He asked localities to have agreeable solutions to facilitate the harvest, trade, consumption and transportation of farming products while at the same time, ensuring COVID-19 prevention and control regulations.

With COVID-19 quick test kits sponsored by Loc Troi Group, the province’s health sector offered free quick COVID-19 tests for people who join harvesting and collecting the farming products.

Every commune in An Giang province now has had a task force that offers support to the harvest and consumption of local farming products. The task forces also keep contacts and report districts’ authorities about arisen problems so that the problems could be addressed as soon as possible.

Nguyen Sy Lam, director of An Giang Province’s Agriculture and Rural Development Department said that until August 3, about 228,479 ha of summer-autumn rice in the province was harvested, accounting for 70 per cent of the total cultivation area.

The harvest was expected to finish by the end of this month, Lam said.

Local enterprises and those from other provinces could buy farmers all the harvested summer-autumn rice this year.

Nearly 73 per cent of the total 17,130 ha of vegetables in the province has been harvested.

Within this month, local farmers planned to harvest about 83,000 tonnes of vegetables. About 25,000 tonnes, accounting for 30 per cent of the vegetable, will be sold at local markets.

Supports are needed to consume the remaining 58,000 tonnes of farming products, mostly corn and vegetable soybeans in Cho Moi District, spring onions in Phu Tan District and lotus seeds in An Phu District.
