Agriculture under digital era

In the past, the agriculture was attached to the image of a farmer working hard on the fields. Nowadays, the technology application helps renovate the production. Via some simple operations, the farmer can use the remote control function to take care of the crops and animals as expectation to enhance the product output and quality.

The drone is applied to spray the plant protection products and fertilizer in Quang Minh commune (Viet Yen district).

Application of modern technology

Many people are impressed at the circulation model of crop planting and fish farming at the Application Center of Advanced Technology and Science in Que Nham commune, Tan Yen district (Bac Giang province).

The scaffold system is laden with vegetables, gourds and tomato which is adjacent to two 1,000 litter tanks to breed various fishes of carp, grass carp and square head anabas.

There are food trays and electronic system on the tank cover that are automatically connected to the smart phone. Thus, the farmers are able to feed the fish by pressing on the button to release the food with sufficient nutrition to meet animal growing demand. Besides, many other equipment of pump, clock, aerator...are automatically set up.

According to Chu Thanh Son who is in charge of the model, it is a close integration technology to circulate the water to raise fish in dense quantity and grow the vegetables and fruits without using soil, fertilizer, plant protection product.

The vegetables are grown on stone and gravel, thus it is developed in a clean environment which is not suitable to the grass and worm.

The waste water of fishing stage will become the nutrition to grow the crops after removing the leftover food. The bio system and plant handle and clean the water then re-supply to the fishing stage. Both plant and fish are well developed. Currently, Son is setting up the model to several households in the province.

The key point of digital agriculture is to draw the investor to the farming sector. Hi-tech application will help produce high quality products with big quantity. At that time, only the enterprise or cooperative is able to link and expand the market and maintain the regular and effective production.

Yen Dung Clean Vegetable Production Cooperative in Tien Dung commune, Yen Dung district regularly seeks and applies new technologies to gain high efficiency. The 10 ha cultivation area is watered by Israeli technology with the software programmed to know the demand for moisture and and water of each tree and area then report the control center. Then, the technician will press on the watering button on the computer.

Besides, the first ever model to pilot the smart technology via using drone to spray the fertilizer and plant protection production to the crops in Quang Minh commune (Viet Yen district) surprised the farmers.

Only small drone can replace hundreds of labourers because it takes around 20 minutes to spray for 1 ha of rice field without any harm.

Drawing investors to agriculture

Apart from these above mentioned models, there are several new technology models in the province such as weather forecast equipment in Luc Ngan district, automatic aerator in Thai Dao commune (Lang Giang district) as well as hundreds of hi-tech models with effective production.

To develop the digital agriculture, the province has gradually realized each step of selecting the key crops and animals to apply the digital technology, zoning off the digitalization map of production area, establishing the provincial portal of farm produce origin traceability.

The model of safe sprout production in Xuong Giang ward (Bac Giang city) proves high economic value.

Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Duong Thanh Tung said: “The key point of digital agriculture is to draw the investor to the farming sector. Hi-tech application will help produce high quality products with big quantity. At that time, only the enterprise or cooperative is able to link and expand the market and maintain the regular and effective production. Hence, the Department has actively implemented the policies to encourage the enterprise to invest in the provincial agriculture, considering it as the premise to drive the digital agriculture”.

According to Director of BAGICO Joint Stock Company (Viet Yen district) Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuc, the digital technology is to apply the advanced measures to replace the simple and backward methods of production to increase the effectiveness. The means of application can simply be a smart phones. Thus, it is necessary to change the farmers’ thinking to access to new cultivation method.

Together with these above solutions, the provincial farming sector has coordinated to complete the technological infrastructure for the agriculture, link and expand the markets, seek and select the suitable technologies to each cultivation model in the province as well as train and develop the human resources for digital agriculture.
