Agricultural trademark building is an important element for agricultural products to gain sustainable development. Realizing this, authorities at all levels and people of the province have made efforts in improving the quality of agricultural products and building their trademarks.

Stable consumption market

The whole province is now home to 16 fruit trees-growing groups and individuals meeting VietGap standards with around 166 hectares associated with collective and individual trademarks, namely “Bach Dang pomelo”, “Lai Thieu fruit”, “North Tan Uyen orange”, “North Tan Uyen pomelo”, “Phuong Uyen pomelo”, “Thanh Thuy pomelo”, “Doan Minh Chien pomelo”…

Tan Uyen town’s Bach Dang commune now has nearly 500 pomelos-growing households with nearly 400 hectares. Winning the “Bach Dang pomelo” collective trademark in 2012 has seen as a motivation for the local farmers to further develop this kind of fruit tree with high economic value.

Nguyen Van Cai, the owner of a pomelo orchard of 4,600 square meters residing in Bach Dang commune’s Binh Chu hamlet said that on the last Tet (Lunar New Year) festival 2018, he harvested more than 6 tons of pemelo with a total revenue of more than VND350million.

On August, 2017, North Tan Uyen oranges and pomelos were granted the “collective brand name” certifications. This has helped two kinds of fruits get a stable value in the domestic market and fly higher in the international market.

Thai Thanh Binh, Chairman of North Tan Uyen district’s People’s Committee said that under a plan on restructuring of agriculture towards the increase of added value and sustainable development for the period of 2016-2020, the district’s People’s Committee will continue building agriculture towards modernity, goods production, high quality and competitiveness. The objective of the district till 2020 is that the district’s average production value on one hectare of citrus fruit growing land is VND800million and above. The whole district will have around 300-500 hectares of citrus fruit growing land with VietGap certifications…, thereby contributing to enhancing the spiritual and material lives of the local people.

Actively advocating farmers

The province has also implemented numerous projects building the local agricultural product trademarks. For example, provincial People’s Committee has approved a project fostering a specialized area on fruit specialties in Dau Tieng district’s Thanh Tuyen commune for the period of 2015-2018. The objective of the project is to create a clean mangosteens growing area, step by step building a trademark for Dau Tieng district’s mansgosteens…This will be the premise for the district to promote ecotourism, contributing to promoting the local sustainable economic development.

In early 2016, provincial People’s Committee ratified support policies on urban and hi-tech agricultural development for the period of 2016-2020. Accordingly, individuals and collectives are able to get preferential loans with the interesting rate of 3.2% per year. This has contributed to promoting the local agricultural production. However, the local farmers have faced a lot of obstacles on trademark building, market development, capital…

The issue of safe agricultural production in association with agricultural product trademark building is the important premise for the province to form up sustainable production-consumption linkages in the coming time, thereby generating a firm step for the local agricultural products in the international integration process.
