CAIRO — Agro-forestry-fishery goods from Việt Nam are enjoying the spotlight at the 51st Cairo International Fair underway in Egypt’s capital city.

Exhibited products include coffee, tea, cashew nuts, pepper, tra fish and several kinds of fine arts and handicrafts.

The fair, which will conclude on March 23, has seen the participation of 1,000 enterprises from 15 countries. It is expected to attract two million visitors.

Phạm Thế Cương, Vietnamese Trade Counsellor in Egypt, said through the event, Việt Nam hoped to promote investment opportunities among the business community in Egypt and in the world. During the fair, many foreign firms have expressed interest in joining trade fairs in Việt Nam this year, such as Vietnam Food 2018, Viet Fish and Viet Build, Cương said.

Bilateral trade between Việt Nam and Egypt reached over US$350 million in 2017, with $320 million coming from Việt Nam’s exports, including seafood, coffee, pepper, cashew nuts, wooden products, textiles and mobile phones.

Trade experts, however, said the reviewed figures were yet to match the potential of the two countries. They suggested the two countries’ businesses to participate in bilateral trade fairs, exhibitions and investment workshops, thus expanding business opportunities.
