Vietnam has a lot of potential and opportunities, especially during the Fourth Industrial Revolution, to become a global processing hub of agricultural products and a logistics center for the global agriculture industry, said Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

During his visit to Tay Ninh Province on August 20 and 21, Phuc worked with representatives of sugarcane farms and farm produce processing projects to boost the application of advanced technology in production. The two projects are key to the province’s development in the agriculture sector.

The Government leader hailed Tanifood, a fruit and vegetable-processing plant in the outlying district of Go Dau in Tay Ninh Province, as a modern plant enhancing the value of Vietnamese fruits and vegetables and increasing the income of Tay Ninh’s farmers.

Tanifood, with total investment capital of some VND1.8 trillion, covers some 15 hectares and operates with the help of technology and production lines from Germany, Sweden, Italy and Japan. The plant is expected to produce dried fruits and vegetables , frozen fruit and fruit juice, among other things, to serve the country as well as the United States, Europe, South Korea, Japan and Australia.

The plant is scheduled to become operational at the end of 2018 and is expected to consume some 500 tons of fruits such as mango, passionfruit, pineapple and dragon fruit every day, according to a representative of the facility.

“The plant has been receiving several orders worth some US$200 million from major corporations,” the representative added.

The prime minister noted that once operational, the plant will help Vietnam’s agriculture sector rank among the top 15 in the world, while helping the farm produce processing subsector rank among the top 10 in the world in the next decade.

PM Phuc stressed that Vietnam needs more plants like Tanifood to help the country meet its target.
