Vietnam’s agriculture and fishery export revenues reached a record high of US$36.37 billion in 2017, up 13% from the previous year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
In December alone, Vietnam earned US$3.13 billion from farming exports.
Specifically, Vietnam exported 5.89 million tonnes of rice in 2017, bringing in US$2.66 billion, up 22.4% in volume and 23.2% in value against 2016, despite a slight decline in the average export price.
China was largest buyer of Vietnamese rice, accounting for 39.5% of Vietnam’s total rice exports.
Fruit and vegetable export revenues surged by 40.5% from the previous year to US$3.45 billion, with China, Japan, the US and the Republic of Korea being the largest importers, while the value of rubber exports also grew by 35.6% to US$2.26 billion.
Cashew export revenues rose by 23.8% to US$3.52 billion, while others exports such as tea and cassava also saw solid growth.
Meanwhile revenues from coffee and pepper exports fell by 3.8% and 21.9% respectively in comparison to 2016.
