Tra fish exports to Malaysia enjoy substantial growth
Vietnam’s tra fish exports to Malaysia have witnessed double-digit growth in recent times, according to figures released by the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
In the first half of October, tra fish (pangasius) exports to Malaysia enjoyed an annual surge of 23.6 per cent to US$34.18 million. This is considered the most positive sign of growth in the region.
At present, Malaysia represents the second largest import market for Vietnamese tra fish throughout ASEAN.
During the past two years, local tra fish have become increasingly popular among Malaysian consumers with the rising demand for traditional white-fleshed fish.
In the first ten months of the year, approximately 30 tra fish businesses have increased their exports to Malaysia, with an average price for tra fish, ranging between US$1.5 and US$7.5 per kilo.
The VASEP expects that tra fish exports to Malaysia to continue to grow positively during the year’s fourth quarter.
In addition to strong growth in the Malaysian market, this year’s total value of tra fish exports to the ASEAN market has expanded by roughly 25 per cent in comparison to last year.
