Five years after the Hoa Binh Party Committee issued a resolution on a support mechanism for distribution of local agricultural commodities for 2014 – 2020, a number of its farming products such as orange, pomelo, longan, chayote, organic vegetables, purple sugarcane and hill chicken have gained broader access to markets in other cities and provinces, particularly Hanoi, and won welcome by consumers.

Quyet Chien Clean Vegetable Co-operative, Quyet Chien commune (Tan Lac district) helps improve income for local farmers.

Over the last five years, the provincial People’s Committee has directed relevant authorities to adopt many policies to support agricultural production and distribution of key farming products, particularly citrus fruits, clean vegetables and fish of Hoa Binh Reservoir.

Greater attention has been paid to popularising high-yield and high-quality crop varieties to add more values to local agricultural and forestry products. The province has successfully developed new high-yield and pest-resistant paddy rice and maize, among others, and piloted the cultivation of new herbal plants like sacha inchi and new citrus fruits.

It has also exerted more efforts to promote its products by making them available on major trading floors, in order to not only boost sale but also avoid oversupply. Additionally, it has set up provincial and district centres for promoting and distributing farming products right after harvest.

A total of 3.4 billion VND has been invested to help distribute more than 10,000 tonnes of agricultural products to markets outside the province. The province has diversified distributing methods in close association with tourism.
