Seafood exports reached nearly $4.4 billion in the first seven months of 2020

In the first seven months of 2020, Vietnam brought in nearly $4.4 billion from exporting seafood, down 6% compared to the same period last year.

According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs, seafood export volume reached $796.31 million in July, up 10.7% compared to the previous month and 0.8% compared to the same period last year. In the first seven months of 2020, Vietnam brought in nearly $4.4 billion from exporting seafood, down 6% compared to the same period last year.

Sales to the US ranked first with $838.44 million worth, increasing by 4.5% as compared to the same period last year and accounting for 19.1% of the country’s seafood export volume. In July alone, seafood exports to the US reached $184.35 million, up 12.8% compared to the previous year.

The second is Japan with $788.83 million worth, accounting for 17.9%, down 2.6%. In July alone, exports to this market reached $118.96 million, down 1.6% compared to June.

The third is the EU with $661.51 million worth, accounting for 15% and decreasing by 8.5%. Seafood exports to China reached $590.65 million, accounting for 13.4%, down 1.1%, and exports to Korea reached $422.59 million, accounting for 9.6%, down 4.1%.

Seafood exports to Southeast Asia countries accounted for 7.2% of the country’s total seafood export volume, reaching 317.04 million, down 12.8%.

In general, Vietnam saw a drop in exporting seafood compared to the same period last year, with a slump being recorded in Saudi Arabia ($0.05 million, down 73.3%), Iraq ($2.68 million, down 67.2%), Mexico ($30.5 million, down 56.5%), India ($5.93 million, down 62.2%). However, noticeable sales were recorded in some markets such as Cambodia with $33.86 million worth (+71%), Switzerland with $22.99 million worth (+52.6%), Chile with $11.39 million worth (+19.9%).
