Nearly 2,000 poor farmers capitalized in first nine months

Nearly 2,000 poor farmers were provided with US$151,443 in the first nine months of the year, according to reports at the celebration of the 89th founding anniversary of the Vietnam Farmer Association.

On the occasion of celebration, the Ho Chi Minh City Farmers Association announced to give poor farmers seedlings, seeds, and production tools worth over VND3.5 billion (US$151,443) in the first nine months of the year.

At the event, the Vietnam Farmer Association presented badges to 49 members of the city branch of the association and Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee also gave medals to five others and merit certificates to 11 good farmers of the city.

Additionally, the association also organized a special fair to sell agricultural products, part of the program “Honoring safe agricultural products in the city” as well as encouraged to set up 24 cooperatives, 35 cooperative groups which signed contracts with enterprises to sell agricultural products.

Through the program “ Tet lam dieu hay” (Doing good thing in Tet holiday), annual charity program raising money for poor farmers on the Lunar New Year, the farmer association has collected more than VND12 billion to buy gifts and production devices, build charitable houses, and give scholarships for indigent students and farmers.

In the upcoming years, the association will focus on applying technologies into cultivation to produce high profit for farmers.
