The district had over 280 tons of garlic in stock on October 23.

Mr. Pham Van Vuong, secretary of the Communist Youth Union in Ly Son district, said that traders sold garlic products from other places in Ly Son at the price equal to local garlic, causing price drop. Farmers now suffer a loss of VND20,000 a kilogram.

The union has launched a campaign to assist farmers to consume Ly Son garlic at the price of VND60,000 a kilogram so that they can overcome difficulties and resume production in coming winter spring crop.

Ly Son is an island district locating 15 nautical miles northeast of Quang Ngai province with the population of 22,000 people. Of these, 3,884 households farm over 326.5 hectares of onion and garlic.

Ly Son is named “Garlic kingdom” and Ly Son garlic is favorite across the country.
