According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Bac Giang province has over 3,000 ha of longan cultivation with an estimated output of over 20,000 tonnes.

Nguyen Dinh Ben (center) in Luc Son commune shares experience to care for the longan.

Though the productivity is a little lower than the figure last year, in general the province is waiting for a bumper harvest. The districts with large longan areas include Luc Ngan, Tan Yen and Yen The.

This year, many farmers grow and care the longan under VietGAP procedure to increase the product quality, mostly in Luc Son commune (Luc Nam district), Giap Son commune (Luc Ngan district), Hong Ky commune (Yen The district) among others.

It is about haft of month to come the longan harvest season. Normally, several tradesmen from Hai Duong province, Hanoi city… visit each orchard to buy the fruit or place a weighting point.

Particularly, some households in Dan Hoi commune (Luc Nam district) keep the traditional handicraft of making dried longan in this crop.
