Currently, African swine fever (ASF) in Long An province is complicated. Therefore, the Provincial People's Committee and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) advise farmers not to repopulate and increase their herds when the disease is not under control.

Breeding in the direction of biosecurity to prevent and fight diseases well

Before ASF occurred in Long An, the Provincial People's Committee and the Agriculture and Rural Development sector had a lot of documents directing, guiding and organizing activities to implement effective measures to prevent and control the epidemics.

In particular, thank to the good implementation of the prevention and control of ASF, there has been no outbreak in the province. However, the epidemic situation has been complicated recently.

According to Long An Provincial People's Committee, the disease situation is complicated, it spreads very fast, the number of households with infected pigs is increasing.

In the coming time, the provincial People's Committee will direct the Agriculture sector and especially localities continue to strengthen measures to prevent ASF such as strictly implementing Directive No. 06/CT-UBND dated March 6, 2019 of the provincial People's Committee synchronously implementing urgent solutions to control ASF; strengthening leadership and directing for the prevention and control of ASF epidemic; do not "assign" the agricultural sector or the responsible departments; attaching importance to communes where epidemics have not yet occurred; focusing on guiding and inspecting the implementation of preventive measures to limit the spread of epidemics, protect pig herds, especially breeding stocks for re-breeding after the epidemic is over.

Well organizing the reception and processing information on epidemics; promptly checking and classifying to quarantine or allow the consumption of uninfected pigs, dispose the infected or dead pigs in order to ensure the spread of epidemics and cause environmental pollution. Checking and supervising burial sites of sick and dead pigs and burial sites must ensure proper techniques and not spread epidemics. Applying appropriate destruction measures to thoroughly eliminate pathogens in the environment (due to a large number of epidemics, the number of pigs destroyed is too large).

Strengthening propaganda to people about disease support mechanisms and policies according to the current regulations of the State so that people can grasp the level of support and comply with the regulations on disease treatment. Strengthening communication on bio-safety implementation in animal husbandry. Paying attention to ensure absolute bio-security when selling pigs (traders need to change clothes, boots, tools, etc.); minimizing the access to the breeding area for strangers; taking measures to prevent other animals (mice, dogs, cats, etc.) from entering the breeding area.

Continuing to implement appropriate technical solutions in quarantine for transportation of pigs and pig products; slaughter control; control the trading, preliminary processing and processing of pork and pork products as prescribed.

It is recommended that establishments, businesses, large-and-small-scale livestock households, reduce their herds and do not re-breed when the epidemic is not under control and only increase their herds when guided by the agricultural sector.

Organizing the training courses on professional skills and services in disease identification and testing such as clinical diagnosis, sampling, writing records, and so on for agricultural and agricultural extension officers to support the quick response force in the case of multiple outbreaks and need support.

Organizing the statistics and evaluation of damage caused by ASF and ensuring the accuracy of the reported data; synthesizing reports, proposing the need to directly support pig farmers destroyed by ASF and good support for the prevention and control of epidemics.

Coordinating with specialized agencies to organize research, applying experimental measures to prevent and control ASF, replicating the model, deploying experiment application when there are reports of positive research results.
