On November 15, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Long An province held a conference to summarize agricultural production in 2019 and deploy tasks in 2020.

In 2019, the growth rate of group I is estimated to increase by 1.55 percent

In 2019, the Agriculture sector faced many difficulties such as the reduction of prices of agricultural products, epidemics on cattle, and so on. In general, in 2019, the growth rate of group I is estimated to increase by 1.55 percent.

The rice area of the province is 505,701 hectares, decreasing by 5,559 hectares, equaling 98.9 percent over the same period. In 2019, the whole province has transferred 2,500 hectares of rice land to other plants and about 1,100 hectares of aquatic breeds.

Up to now, African Swine fever has been detected in 3,046 households in 689 hamlets/quarters, 176 communes/wards of 15 districts, towns and cities in the province. The total number of infected and destroyed pigs was 76,029, with a total weight of 4,519,874.6 kilograms.

The cost to support the destruction of pigs was estimated at over 135 billion VND. To date, 91 out of 176 communes, wards and towns were hit by the disease passing more than 30 days since the last infected pig was culled. Particularly, the districts of Vinh Hung, Moc Hoa and Kien Tuong towns had passed 30 days since the last infected pig was culled.

On the other hand, brackish water aquaculture in 2019 has many advantages.

Besides, the breakthrough program of high-tech application agriculture associated with the restructuring of the agricultural sector has achieved high efficiency.

According to the Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development - Nguyen Thanh Truyen, the key task of 2020 will be to promote the restructuring of the agriculture sector in the direction of enhancing the value and sustainable development, quality, associating production with the processing industry and closely connect with the market.

At the same time, the sector will focus on replicating high-tech agricultural production models to ensure the set goals; strengthen production links; encourage businesses to invest in the field of agriculture and rural development, contributing to building new countryside and improving the lives of people. Especially, the growth rate of the whole sector in 2020 will strive to reach 1.5 percent.
