Long An Agricultural sector developed a rice variety growing in environments of high salinity MLA1 and 2 high-productivity rice varieties LA2 and LA5 with the provincial brand.

Currently, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has developed a set of strategic rice variety with the provincial brand. The department is taking procedures to apply for seed recognition including a set of rice variety growing in environments of high salinity MLA1and 2 high-quality LA2 and LA5 rice varieties.

Besides, in each crop, the province coordinated with institutes and schools to carry out testing of rice varieties to select varieties suitable for growing conditions in Long An such as OM22, sticky rice OM406, Hatri 10, Hatri 11.

The development and testing of new rice varieties to limit damage, bring the highest economic efficiency to farmers under conditions of climate change, weather, drought, saline intrusion, and so on which frequently occurs in the province.

Deputy Director of Department of Agriculture and Rural Development - Nguyen Chi Thien also said that the provincial Agricultural sector recommended structuring the suitable seed for growing areas affected by saline to adapt to the above conditions over the past time such as OM5451, OM6976, OM1352, OM576, OM6162, etc. and the set of fragrant specialty rice varieties for areas less affected by salinity such as Nang Hoa 9, RVT, ST24, and so on./.
