Dong Nai company wins approval to export poultry meat and processed poultry products to Japan.

Japan has approved the import of poultry meat and processed poultry products from the Koyu & Unitek Co. in southern Dong Nai province from June 22, according to the Department of Animal Health at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).

The first batch of exports will be 300 tons of chicken breast.

Since June 2016, the Department of Animal Health has supported Koyu & Unitek to build the “Project to Produce Chicken Processed in a Closed Chain to Export to the Japanese Market”, which has been submitted to MARD for approval.

It has also cooperated with Koyu & Unitek to implement programs to monitor poultry diseases and food safety and implement hygienic veterinary requirements at slaughterhouses and chicken processing plants to meet Japanese requirements.

The department will continue to support Koyu & Unitek in exporting processed chicken to the EU and other markets and expand its slaughterhouses and processed chicken exports.

It will also guide other companies with potential to export cattle and poultry meat in organizing the construction of a “Closed Chain Processing Production Project”, to build a slaughterhouse and meat processing plant for exports to Japan.

Last March, Koyu & Unitek opened a new chicken processing plant to prepare for exports to Japan. The company invested $6 million in importing machinery and technology from Japan to build the factory, which has a processing capacity of 50,000 chickens a day.

Koyu & Unitek Co. is the first company in Vietnam to register and export chickens to Japan. According to the department, CP Vietnam has also registered for the export of processed chicken products to Japan, in late May.
