Japan officially agrees to import chicken meat from Vietnam

According to the Department of Animal Health (the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), from 22 June 2017, Japan has officially agreed to import chicken meat from Vietnam.

Many opportunities for exports of processed chicken meat.

Specifically, Japan agrees to import poultry meat and processed poultry meat from Koyu & Unitek Co., Ltd., headquartered in Dong Nai province, Vietnam from 22 June 2017, The first shipment of chicken breast will be exported to Japan market with a quantity of 300 tons.

To achieve the results, from June 2016, the Department of Animal Health has supported and guided Koyu & Unitek Co., Ltd in Dong Nai province to develop the "Project on chicken meat production in circle chain for export to Japan ", to be submitted to the MARD for approval.

It has collaborated with Koyu & Unitek Ltd to carry out programs on poultry disease surveillance and food safety monitoring, and implement requirements on hygienic veterinary for the chicken slaughterhouse and processing factories for exports as required by Japan.

The Japanese Department of Animal Health has sent a veterinary inspection delegation to Vietnam to evaluate the production chain of processed chicken for export of Koyu & Unitek Co., Ltd from 29 May 2017 to 30 May 2017. As result, the veterinary inspection delegation confirmed: Koyu & Unitek Co., Ltd meets veterinary hygiene requirements for export to Japan.

Earlier in March 2017, Koyu & Unitek Co., Ltd launched a new chicken processing factory to prepare for exports to Japan. the Company has invested US$ 6 million in importing machinery and technology from Japan to build a factory with a processing capacity of 50,000 chickens per day. The products of this factory are processed chicken such as fried chicken, chicken burger, chicken balls qualified for export to Japan.

Koyu & Unitek Co., Ltd. is also the first company in Vietnam to register and promote the exports of chicken to Japan. According to the Department of Animal Health, after Koyu & Unitek, CP Vietnam Corporation has also registered to export processed chicken meat to Japan at the end of May 2017.

In the coming time, the Department of Animal Health will continue to support and guide Koyu & Unitek Co., Ltd. to register exports of processed chicken meat to the EU and other markets and expand the chicken slaughterhouse and processing factories of Koyu & Unitek Co., Ltd. in the Southeast region. At the same time, guiding and supporting some other companies with the potential of cattle and poultry meat exports to build a “Project on processing and production in circle chain” and build the chicken slaughterhouses and processing factories for exports to Japan.

This is the first time that Vietnam's poultry meat is permitted to officially export to foreign countries and to Japan which is one of the most fastidious markets in the world and also is good news for Vietnamese enterprises when Vietnam's chicken meat is officially exported to a market that is considered as a fastidious market with stricter and higher requirements on disease and food safety than other countries in the region and the world.
