With priority given to processing and deep processing establishments, Ha Giang Province’s activities have contributed significantly to developing key goods, especially agro-forestry-fishery products.

According to the Ha Giang Department of Industry and Trade, some large projects in the agro-forestry-fishery field have gone into operation, creating significant changes in the processing industry.

Specifically, as many as four wood processing projects went into operation, including a plywood production plant with capacity of 50,000cu.m per year, a fresh wood preliminary processing plant, an export wood manufacturing and processing plant, and a wood pellet production plant with capacity of 20,000 tonnes per year. In addition to large enterprises, the province also has 156 wood processing establishments with about VND400 billion per year in sales. With huge market demand, Ha Giang Province has been supporting the continued development of three major projects in this field.

Tea cultivation and processing have also received development incentives. The province currently has 653 tea processing businesses, facilities and cooperatives. Some large establishments have put modern production lines into operation, creating high-quality products with recognizable brand names.

Industry promotion activities have contributed significantly to the success. In the past five years, Ha Giang Province’s industry promotion activities have supported the application of new machinery and equipment at 27 tea-processing establishments, three plywood production facilities, and 23 other processing units such as turmeric starch, cassava starch, and handicrafts.

However, establishments applying for benefits from annual industry promotion programs remains few, and the programs need to be diversified and improved.

The annual budget for industry promotion activities remains low, failing to meet demand. In addition, coordination is lacking between authorities at all levels, resulting in slow implementation of investment projects.

To ensure the efficiency of projects and improve contribution to rural industrial development, the province encourages investment in potential fields and development of key products. Accordingly, the province will strengthen support for manufacturing and processing projects of agro-forestry-fishery products, enhance technology transfer, and promote branding for key products.

To develop the tea sector, Ha Giang Province will focus on strengthening scientific and technological application in production, encourage households to diversify products and improve quality, and promote branding for Ha Giang teas, especially those produced from ancient tea varieties.
