High-tech agriculture changes evidently
According to People's Committee of Phu Giao district, in the first 6 months of 2019, the application of high technologies into agricultural production continued to have an evident change and brought high efficiency.
High efficiency
According to the evaluation of the district Economic Chamber, the application of high technologies into agricultural production made an obvious change in this area. In addition to high-tech agricultural production area concentrated in An Thai commune with total area of 411.75 ha and high-tech agricultural area of dairy farming in Phuoc Sang commune with total area of 471.86 ha, the district formed 103 high-tech agricultural farms (including 17 certified VietGAP farms), including 57 cultivation farms and 46 animal husbandry farms (cold farms).
Farms in the district are diverse in crops, technique, and scale. High-tech farms in the district planting melon, safe vegetables, citrus fruits, (bananas, pomelos, oranges, durian ...) have a scale of several thousand m2 (orchids, vegetables ...) to a few dozen ha (melons, fruit trees ...).
Currently, the area of short-term crops in the district is shifting to leaf and fruit vegetables, orchids, reaching 500 ha with investment capital of over VND 500 billion. The total area for animal husbandry farms is about 300,000m2. The district has many agricultural economic models that bring high profits (up to 30-40% total revenue).

Besides, the district formed fruit growing areas and got high productivity and economic efficiency, mainly orange, pomelo, tangerine ... with an area of about 800 ha. These trees are mainly grown in An Thai, An Linh, Tam Lap, Phuoc Hoa communes, and Phuoc Vinh town. The District People's Committee is preparing procedures and will submit to Intellectual Property Office of the Ministry of Science and Technology to register collective trademarks of Phu Giao orange and Phu Giao pomelo.
It is noted that currently many high-tech farms in the district achieve high economic efficiency. Namely, high-tech agricultural farms grow leafy vegetables in the area gain revenue of 500 million VND to over 1 billion VND / ha / year, orchid farms nearly 2 billion VND / ha / year, orchards over 1 billion VND / ha / year, livestock and poultry 1 billion VND / farm... For example, vegetable farm (leafy vegetables, fruits, spices) of Nguyen Manh Phong in Gia Bien hamlet, Tam Lap commune reaches an output of 120 tons / year, revenue of 1 billion / year; 25-ha pomelo orchard of Nguyen Duc Thang in Gia Bien hamlet, Tam Lap commune with an output of 100 tons / year, turnover of over 30 billion VND / year; melon farm of Nguyen Van Cuong in An Binh commune with turnover of 1 billion VND / year...
To develop brand names for citrus trees
Over the last 6 months, the value of agricultural and forestry production in Phu Giao district achieved VND 1,902.2 billion, reaching 45.14% target for 2019. In the district's agricultural production structure, cultivation accounts for 68.6%, animal husbandry accounts for 31.4% (the first 6 months of 2018 were 68.8% and 31.2%). The total area for annual crops in the district is 2,139 ha, decreasing by 0.82% (2.87 ha); The total area of perennial crops is 38,740.23ha, an increase of 0.03% (13.29ha) compared to the same period last year.
Regarding high-tech animal husbandry, the district now has 47 cold farms, including 1 dairy farm of 1,300 heads (about 800 animals), 18 chicken farms, and 28 pig farms.
Based on the results achieved in the first 6 months of this year, the District People's Committee directed agencies and localities to review and evaluate the situation and results to have solutions to speeding up socio-economic task performance, including high-tech agriculture.
Doan Van Dong, Chairman of Phu Giao District People's Committee, said that the District People's Committee asked functional agencies in the last 6 months to regularly monitor the weather, and collaborate with communes and towns to have measures, timely prevent, and respond to erratic weather events to minimize losses in agricultural production. He also asked sectors and localities to build and develop brand names of citrus trees in the district; organize high-tech agriculture conferences, barcode application into production and business management; develop and implement action plans to ensure food safety in agricultural sector, and food safety criteria in the fields of agriculture, forestry and fisheries ...
