Gardeners busy with preparing vegetable supply for Tet

When the traditional Tet holiday is around the corner, farmers in Phu Long’s vegetable villages -Ham Thuan Bac district are busy with sowing, planting and caring various vegetables for harvest ahead of Tet.

Despite dazzling sunshine in afternoon, numerous of gardeners in Phu Cuong hamlet still worked hard on vegetable fields in a hope of getting high income for this crop. After harvesting his cauliflower garden, farmer Doan Van Hai actively prepared soil for next crops to ensure green stuff  supply during Tet days. For nearly 10 years, his family has cultivated vegetables on a 3-pearch- field, with many crops: lettuce, spring onion, coriander, cauliflower, cabbage ...Vegetables are planted and harvested all-year-round, but in the year-end, most of gardeners focus on caring their crops more carefully than usual. Favourable weather enables local farmers to grow vegetables with high productivity, so they easily make profit.

Phu Long townlet has long been known with a specializing area of vegetables in Ham Thuan Bac district thanks to abundant water sources and fertile soil. Vegetables grown in Phu Long have  been provided for traditional markets in Phan Thiet city, La Gi town, Tanh Linh district,  even other provinces and Ho Chi Minh city.

According to Mr. Vo Quang Minh- chairman of Phu Long townlet’s Farmers Association, the town now has about 46 hectares of vegetables, raising by 6-7 perches compared with last year. In which, there are 2 safe vegetable growing groups in Phu Truong and Phu Cuong hamlets.
