EU allocates tariff quota on Vietnamese rice under EVFTA

EU has provided imported tariff quota for rice originating from Vietnam under the EU- Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), starting from next year.

According to the Export-Import Department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), sources from Viet Nam Trade Office to Belgium, EU said that EU has issued Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/760  amending Implementing Regulations (EU) 2020/761 and (EU) 2020/1988  as regards the management system of some tariff quotas with licenses and repealing Implementing Regulation (EU) 2020/991.

Accordingly, Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/760 have taken effect since May 11, 2021. However, for Vietnamese rice imported into the EU market as set in tariff quota under the EVFTA, the Regulation will become effective in January 1, 2022.

Specifically, EU provides an annual rice quota of 80,000 tons  to Vietnam as followed:

For 20,000 tons of milled rice: 10,000 tons are  allocated for the period from January 1, 2022  to March 31, 2022; 5,000 tons for the period from April 1 to June 30, the rest 5,000 tons for the period from July 1 to September 30. No quota is set for the period from October 1 to December 12.

For 30,000 tons of husked rice: 15,000 tons are allocated for the period from January 1 to March 31, 2022; 5,000 tons for the period from April 1 to June 30; 7,500 tons for the period from July 1 to September 30. No quota is set for the period from October 1 to December 12.

For 30,000 tons of fragrant rice (9 varieties including Jasmine 85, ST 5, ST 20, Nang Hoa 9, VD 20, RVT, OM 4900, OM 5451 and Tai Nguyen Cho Dao): 15,000 tons are allocated for the period from January 1 to March 31, 2022; 7.500 tons for the period from April 1 to June 30; 7,500 tons for the period from July 1 to September 30. No quota is set for the period from October 1 to December 12.
