The province has developed many large-scale economic models in which farm economy plays an important role in transiting from small-scale agriculture to specialized commodity production. So far, many farm models have brought high economic efficiency and created jobs for thousands of workers, actively contributing to the local rural development.

Appropriate direction

In order to reach appropriate development in the new period, farmers have bravely replaced small production models to ones with advanced production lines under the European standards, bringing high economic efficiency.

Up to now, the whole province has had a total of 75 agricultural facilities under VietGAP standards with over 450 hectares in total. Some models of growing citrus fruit trees with high technology have obtained the average income of over VND1 billion per hectare per year. The whole province now is home to 313 concentrated livestock farms in the northern districts and towns of the province. Most of them have applied and maintained the VietGAP production process and there are 34  establishments winning VietGap certificates.

Do Van Lap in Ben Cat town’s An Tay commune said that his family has developed a pig farm with the average income of more than VND 400 million per year. His family is also investing in expanding the scale of the farm, applying sci-tech advancements into animal husbandry for higher income.

Currently, the farm economy model is developing strongly in Dau Tieng, Phu Giao, Bau Bang and North Tan Uyen districts. The average economic profit from the model is VND 500 million per farm per year, many times higher than the average profit of farm households. The value of products from the farms is also quite high, well meeting demand for domestic consumption and processing for export. Nguyen Thi Huyen Tram, Vice-Chairwoman of Bau Bang district’s Farmers Association said that the economic efficiency of the farm model is very great. Many local people in the commune have changed to investing in the model with large scale. In addition, the district has also received support policies in terms of nurslings and fertilizer as well as infrastructure development, thereby created a motivation for farmers to develop home based business, promoting the local economy.

Combining production and processing

The efficiency from the farm economy model has gradually formed concentrated production areas. Along with investment and support from sectors and localities, farmers in the province have had strong investment in terms of capital and science and technology, and products from farms have affirmed their market value.

Nguyen Chien, from Chien Thang farm in Phu Giao districts Tam Lap commune said that agricultural production under VietGAP standards is currently invested by many local farms. Production towards improving productivity and quality, based on sci-tech application not only provides safe agricultural products for the market, but also increases the value of goods, making a positive contribution into the growth of the local agriculture. During the production process, the farm has applied  VietGAP standards into production at the market's demand for clean and safe products.

According to provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, implementing policies to support farms in the province, the department last year received and transferred 15 projects with the demand for VND163 billion in loan to provincial Development Investment Fund for assessment, received and restructured  repayment cycle for 7 projects, due to the impact of Covid-19 pandemic. So far, there have been 119 plans ensuring contents and conditions as prescribed with total proposed loan of more than VND 1 billion. These projects are transferred to provincial Development Investment Fund to conduct appraisal in order to provide loans for developing orchards, supporting trademark building, promoting agricultural product consumption, making urban agriculture development, developing citrus orchards ... Up to now, the number of farms with VietGAP certificates in the province is 115 (including 80 cultivation and 35 livestock),up 4 farms over the same period last year.

Pham Van Bong, Director of provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said that in 2021, the department has planned to implement a project on urban agriculture development in the southern region of the province. The northern region of the province will focus on developing large-scale and modern husbandry and cultivation models while building models linking production and processing and consumption, with focus on strongly developing agricultural production on farms. The department will also coordinate with relevant sectors to call for businesses and individuals to invest in and transfer advanced farming models and high-tech applications to farms.
