Vice Chairman of Dong Thap's Provincial People's Committee Huynh Minh Tuan said according to Decision No.417/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister on the Project to develop the fruit and vegetable processing industry in the 2021 - 2030 period, the provincial government has asked a number of departments and agencies at all levels to take action to deal with the problems related to key fruits and vegetables after recovering from Covid-19.

Accordingly Dong Thap's Department of Industry and Trade created a master plan for the value chain development of fruits and vegetables in each period. The department also worked with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development along with the relevant agencies and localities to promote locally-grown fruits and vegetables, connecting with processing and exporting enterprises, modern distribution channels and wholesalers, expanding markets through e-commerce platforms, fairs and exhibition both domestically and internationally during the 2021-2030 period and the subsequent years.

Besides, the cooperation in production and consumption should be promoted to enhance the linkage between all parties involved, especially between enterprises with farmers and cooperatives.

Also according to the plan, the models of cooperatives, cooperative groups among fruit and vegetable growers should be maintained and developed. Along with that, it's necessary to take measures to help farmers grow fruits and vegetables complying with the standards of safety, being connected with enterprises and distributors from seeds, materials and techniques to consumption and at the same time inspecting and supervising planted area codes, packaging codes and origin traceability. In addition, the province also called on creating favorable conditions for developing logistics services, reducing transportation costs and improving the competiveness of local agricultural products.

The People's Committee of Dong Thap province urged the Department of Transport to coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Department of Industry and Trade as well as the relevant agencies to carry out the construction of transportation infrastructures connecting large-scale concentrated agricultural areas.

The Department of Science and Technology shall assume the prime responsibility and coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the relevant departments and agencies to put innovative and advanced technologies into use, brainstorming solutions to the problems related to producing, harvesting, processing and consuming the key fruits and vegetables.
