Cà Mau - Establish a Alliance of organic and sustainable Vietnamese shrimp

In the conference of the establishment of the Vietnam Sustainable Shrimp Alliance, twenty-two members were voted to be the Executive Committee. Deputy Chairman of Cà Mau People’s Committee Lê Đắc Sử was elected to be the Chairman of the Union for the period 2020-2025.

In the morning of November 25, 2020, Cà Mau People’s Committee held a conference of the establishment of the Vietnam Sustainable Shrimp Alliance (VSSA).

Besides supporting and protecting the rights and legal benefits of members, all products labeled VSSA will follow global standards of environmental sustainability, without using  prohibited substances and changing products illegally. Accordingly, feed resources and traceability must satisfy global requirements and Vietnam’s standards.

The Alliance has 66 members, who voted 22 people as members of the Executive Committee. Deputy Chairman of Cà Mau People’s Committee Lê Đắc Sử was elected to be the Chairman of the Union for the period 2020-2025.

In Cà Mau, the shrimp sector is the key livelihood of over 50% of residents. Producing 250,000 tons of shrimps per year, the province brings in $1.2 billion from exporting shrimps, accounting for 34% of the whole country’s shrimp export value. The local shrimp sector has developed upon the renovation of the country and played an important role in the economic development of Cà Mau.

Deputy Chairman of Cà Mau People’s Committee Lê Đắc Sử said: “The alliance will pave a new way for companies and individuals related to shrimp sector to team up with each other in production, bringing high efficiency and contributing into enhancing the competitiveness of Vietnamese shrimps in the global market. The shrimp sector must become a model for the development of a modern agricultural industry”.
