According to the People’s Committee of the district, farm and cooperative models across the district have continued upholding their role in the local socio-economic development. The whole district is now home to 5 cooperatives, 22 cooperative groups and 341 farmsteads on cultivation and animal husbandry. District-based farmsteads are more than 3,457 hectares, generating jobs for 2,569 laborers.

Noticeably, the district has till now formed up 2 hi-tech agricultural areas, including a cultivation area of 411.75 hectares in An Thai commune and a dairy cow area of 471 hectares in Phuoc Sang commune. Locals have also bravely promoted some hi-tech agricultural models, contributing to improving their income.

Tourism potential tapped

Previously, Phu Giao district was well-known with some tourism sites, comprising of Hang Cop tourism site in Tam Lap commune’s Dong Tam hamlet, an ecotourism site in Phuoc Hoa commune’s Dong Chinh hamlet and Suoi Rac tourism site in An Binh commune. But, their operations have not yet been stable. The district also has 3 provincial-level relics, namely the Palace of Phuoc Thanh provincial chief, Phuoc Hoa broken bridge and Bua Phuoc pagoda.

As planned, the district will further implement the local program making the shift of agriculture with hi-tech models in association with processing industry and environmental protection towards agriculture with comprehensive development. The district will pay attention to processing industry in association with consumption market in line with the local real situation; foster hi-tech agricultural parks, orchards along Song Be river, streams; develop farms on animal husbandry, ornamental plants…

The district will also link with tourism companies to promote the local tourism; combine hi-tech agriculture with tourism while setting up ecotourism programs at hi-tech agricultural parks that is linked with tapping tourism on Phuoc Hoa reservoir.

In order to well realize the above-mentioned plan, the district will set up additional pilot models such as building ecofarms along rivers, streams…This may be a solution for tourism development, contributing to increasing locals’ income and reducing the ratio of the local poor households. The district will also take solutions on ecotourism development in association with visiting the local cultural-historical relics.

The district’s action program on agricultural development and new rural construction in association with ecotourism is seen a right way with long-term strategic vision. It not only creates the added value for agricultural products, but also ensures the local sustainable development in the future.
